Pricing & billing

4 questions
Is FairlyRemote free?

Yes. The Free plan has no time limit: 4 timezones on your own board (including yours), up to 14 days of locally saved fairness history, and no credit card. Team is $17 per seat per month billed annually, or $22 monthly, starting at one seat. Business is $33 per seat per month billed annually ($399 per seat per year), or $39 monthly, with no seat minimum.

How does the trial work?

Team annual starts with a 14-day free trial through Stripe. You add a card up front, you're not charged during the trial, and cancelling any time before day 14 costs nothing. Team monthly and Business bill from the start. You can pick the annual plan, or subscribe straight away without the trial, from the plans screen in the app. Free is free.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from your account settings in one click. You keep access to the end of the period you have paid for, then drop to Free. UK and EU consumers also have the statutory cancellation rights set out in our Terms.

What happens if I add seats mid-cycle?

Team and Business charge new seats prorated to the end of your current cycle. Removing seats applies on your next renewal. We don't refund mid-cycle seat removals, but we don't penalize you for adding either.

Picking a plan

What's the difference between Free and Team?

Free is a solo, local-only plan: your own board with up to 4 timezones including yours, the day-cycle timeline, up to 14 days of locally saved fairness history, the scanner, and Find Times. You can map other people’s hours as reference timezones, but you cannot invite them or share a board.

Team ($17/seat/mo billed annually, or $22 monthly) is where it becomes a team tool: real teammates on a shared board, Google Calendar sync (Outlook in Beta, read-only), fairness-weighted voting on proposals, team analytics, the Review inbox, recurring meetings, up to 365 days of server-saved fairness history, the availability heatmap, custom working hours, and no watermark on shares. The moment a second person needs to see the board, you want Team.

When do I need Business?

When you need to report fairness to leadership or automate who takes each shift. Business ($33/seat/mo billed annually, or $39 monthly, no seat minimum) adds everything in Team plus HR-format CSV export, contribution alerts, quarterly fairness PDF reports, shift scheduling with fair auto-rotation, advanced privacy controls, and an audit trail. A three-person team that just wants HR reports simply pays for three seats.

How small a team is this useful for?

Three people in different timezones is enough for fairness scoring to be meaningful. There is no upper limit, and Team starts at one seat, so you can add people as the team grows.

7 questions
How is Find Times different from manually scanning the bar?

Two interaction modes, one vocabulary. Find Times returns ranked slots across the next 14 days in one action: pick people, pick a length, get a list labelled Low / Modest / Neutral / Notable / High impact. The scan bar lets you ask "what about this specific hour?" by dragging across the timeline; the verdict pill updates live. Recommendations and manual scan share the same green / amber / red colours, so switching between them doesn't cost any mental translation.

How do I read the green / amber / red colours?

Same traffic light, four lenses. You open in Local times, where the colours are simply everyone's time of day: violet at their night, pale blue at dawn, cream at midday, rose at dusk. There is no verdict at all. Switch the mode to ask a sharper question: Availability shades by who is reachable (green = free, amber = flex edge hours, red = busy), Overlap shades by how much of the team shares the hour (red = few, green = most), and Fairness shades by what booking there would cost each person (green = low impact, amber = notable, red = high).

The same colours mean different things in different modes. In Fairness, red means "costly or unfair to book here", not "someone is in a meeting". The mode picker tells you which question you are reading.

What's a fairness-routed booking link?

A single team booking link that auto-assigns each booking to whoever has taken the fewest awkward-timezone meetings this month. Available on Team and above.

How is this different from a booking-page tool?

A booking page lets an outsider grab a slot on one person's calendar. FairlyRemote™ is for the internal side: it shows everyone's day side by side, gives each candidate time a verdict, and keeps the awkward hours rotating across the team. They're complementary, so keep your booking page for clients. See how it works →

What calendars do you sync with?

Google Calendar (two-way OAuth) and Microsoft 365 / Outlook (in Beta, read-only import today), on Team and above. Any other provider can be brought in read-only via an ICS feed.

Do participants need accounts?

No. Share a vote, schedule, or booking link and people respond without signing up. Accounts are only needed for the person managing the team.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Install it as a PWA on any device. Free stores data locally, so it keeps working without a connection. Paid features that depend on server sync (calendar, shared boards) need internet.

Security & privacy

5 questions
What's shared with my team by default?

Nothing, until you confirm it. Synced events wait in your review queue with Busy Only pre-selected; teammates see none of them until you confirm each one. A confirmed Busy event shows that you're busy, not what. Titles, descriptions, and attendees are never shared unless you raise a single event to Shared (full detail to your board). Drop it to Private and the slot is blocked with no metadata at all: no title, no cell. Group admins set a sharing ceiling per board, the most a confirmed event can show; a ceiling can lower what your confirmation displays, but it can never reveal an event you have not confirmed. See the privacy walkthrough →

Who can see proposal votes?

Board members see the surfaced result and the weighting summary, never a per-person breakdown: the app shows counts, so nobody gets "Alice voted for 3pm." Your ballot is stored against your account so you can change it and so nobody votes twice, and database row-level security returns your own ballot to you while the board sees counts, not names. Treat it as confidential rather than secret: we can identify a ballot if we are legally compelled to. The surfaced winner is the team's call, not the algorithm's; vote weights between 0.5× and 2× reflect recent accommodation history, so people who've taken awkward slots have more say in the next one.

Where is my data stored?

On Free, team data lives in your browser's local storage. We don't hold it on our servers (aside from cookieless site analytics). Team and above use server-saved fairness history (up to 365 days) so scores survive a device wipe and your team can share boards. See our privacy policy for the full breakdown.

Does FairlyRemote use AI?

No, and that's deliberate. The fairness ranking is a deterministic algorithm, not a machine-learning model: the same inputs always produce the same result, you can see the four numbers behind any ranking, and your team can always override it. Your calendar data isn't fed into any model, ours or a third party's. If that ever changed it would be opt-in and announced in the changelog first.

One thing to be precise about: if you've connected Google Calendar (Team and above), Google's own policies govern what they do with the calendar data you've already chosen to store with them. That's your decision when you connect, not something we can renegotiate on your behalf. We only ever read and write the events you've authorised, via the OAuth token you grant us, and you can revoke it at any time.

How do you handle GDPR and CCPA?

We process EU and UK personal data in line with GDPR, and we operate as a service provider under CCPA. For team data you store with us we're a processor; you're the controller. Export your data any time as JSON; delete your account any time. EU users get a Data Processing Addendum on request. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Support

2 questions
What's your support SLA?

Team gets a 24-hour support response target. Business gets a 24-hour SLA. Enterprise gets a custom SLA. Free uses community support: we still answer, just without a target.

What happens to my data if I stop paying or cancel?

You can export everything as JSON at any time, and the export stays available on the account-deletion screen too. The Terms commit to 90-day advance notice before any change to how data is handled. See the trust page for the details.
